What the nominator said: “Kim has worked in politics her entire professional career, beginning with U.S. Sen. Tom Carper as a scheduler while working on a range of issues serving the citizens of our state. In her current role, Kim works on a range of issues from education to economic development to health issues. She leads by example, treats people kindly, and has a passion for making the world a better place.

Your biggest break: Meeting Sen. Carper while working part time during college for the Delaware Volunteer Firefighters Association. Not long after, he offered me a position as his scheduler. I was 20. That opportunity opened doors I never thought possible.

Two words that best describe you: Energetic and driven.

Work/life balance technique you recommend: My best advice is to find time to do something for you. I work out at 5 a.m. several days a week. It keeps my mind clear and ultimately makes me a better mom, lobbyist and philanthropist.

If you were in charge of Delaware: As the wife of a law enforcement officer, I am passionate about changing the way the world views people like my husband. I would love to find a way to implement best practices from around the country to better connect the community with our law enforcement to ultimately support the men and women who protect our communities.

In one sentence, define “success.” Success is living my life with purpose, leading by example for my daughters, leaving our community a better place, and leaving a legacy of tradition for my family.
